John Heim aka Big Mo a Really Nice Guy

As many of you know, I often listen to ‘da Friday Blues show on KCCK radio broadcast out of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Last Friday, he told listeners his email address and invited fans to get in touch with him. I can’t remember ever hearing any KCCK radio show host make that invitation.

So, I did. I sent him a message last Friday night telling him how much I appreciate his show, the Big Mo Blues Show. It airs fantastic blues music every Friday night starting at 6:00 PM.

John actually got back to me yesterday. We both got a big kick out of the whole thing. I’ve never done anything like cold-calling or emailing a celebrity—because that’s what John is. We shared some memories and really got a charge out of that. He’s a great guy.

And he runs a great show. So, give a listen to John Heim aka Big Mo every Friday night on KCCK 88.3 FM in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. You can listen on internet radio if you’re not in the area.

And if you like Big Mo’s show, let him know,

The Friday Night Big Mo Blues Show

I heard this on ‘da Friday Night Blues on KCCK 88.3 earlier. I took guitar lessons when I was a kid. I was real good at buzzing the strings. Not everybody can make the audience clap their hands to their ears and howl in pain. It’s a rare talent-thank goodness. You’re welcome.

I heard Iowa Blues legend Kevin B.F. Burt tonight. I’ll never be able to prove it, but I think he was D.J. for KCCK Friday Blues Show for a short time in the distant past. I’m pretty sure I listened to him. I can’t find that in his interviews anywhere, not even in the biggest one I could find. Sena saw him and his wife at an optometrist clinic a few years ago. He was trying to pick up a pair of eyeglasses. He was in a big hurry and kept saying he had to get to his gig. Sena even spoke to him, asking him if he was Kevin Burt. He very kindly confirmed it-but he was still in a hurry.

KCCK Big Mo Blues Show

Tonight I heard this song on ‘da Friday Blues with John Heim aka Big Mo on KCCK and I thought I heard the lyric “Buckle up buttercup” and it didn’t make sense. Then Big Mo said it was “Pucker up buttercup.” It made sense then.

That’s called a mondegreen.

KCCK Big Mo Blues Show

I heard “Oh Mary Don’t You Weep” by the Swan Silvertones for the first time earlier this evening. It kicked off ‘da Friday Night Blues with John Heim. on Jazz 88.3 KCCK. Every Friday night, Big Mo says something that sounds like, “KCCK, your blues prophylactic protecting you from the demon seeds of life.” Don’t believe me? Listen on Friday nights starting at 6:00 PM.

This song reminds me of some people I used to know.

Heard This Song Tonight on ‘Da Friday Blues

About an hour ago on the KCCK Big Mo Blues Show I heard this song “Bobby” by somebody named Danielle Nicole. Funny how hearing something good like this makes me not want to hear anything else for a while.
