On this date last year, I wrote about mall walking. The one problem is that if I walked out to the mall to do mall walking—it would feel redundant. It might even make me too tired to walk back home. I’ve gotten a bad case of shin splints doing that in the past. Driving out there to walk almost doesn’t make much sense.
So, for the last few months I’ve been walking around the block in our neighborhood. There’s a lot to be said for it. My walking track starts right outside my door. I don’t have to dodge any shoppers or listen to mall music.
There are a couple of hills along the way, and it makes for variation in effort. As the weather warms up, other people get out and do the same. It feels good to smile and wave, say “hi” and that’s good for the soul. The way the mall is designed, mall walkers often end up on opposite sides. You’re not close enough to greet each other.
The route takes me to the mailbox pod; then I turn around and go back around the block the long way back home.
Every once in a while, I’ll see a web article praising the practice of going for fart walks after dinner. That’s what time I go out. It’s good for your bowels. There’s a news article out about once a year recommending it to help with bloating and digestion. Very few writers get grumpy about it. The ones who might could be the same ones who are critical of the studies about mall walking.
If you do fart walking at the mall, you might get funny looks.
