Jim Amos Whistles America the Beautiful

I found out I can fingerless whistle “America the Beautiful.” You want to crank the volume some because the last part of the video is a picture of the American flag waving in the wind and the wind sound effect is soft. The picture of the sky is from our walk on Scott Blvd near Harvest Preserve in Iowa City in 2024.

This song reminds me of my old elementary school. The building where I went to Lincoln for grade school in Mason City, Iowa was torn down many years ago. There is a website which gives a short history of Lincoln school and shows a couple of old photos of it.

As I recall, it was torn down to make room for expansion of the United States Post Office—or maybe a parking lot. When I looked it up on Google maps, it’s both.

Anyway, I remember reciting the Pledge of Allegiance with classmates. You did that by standing and facing the flag while placing your hand over your heart.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

It’s a little sad that I get a sense of irony about it sometimes.
