I was listening to Ed English doing the KCCK Big Shoes Blues program last night and got surprised to hear him do the archival (really long) Shout-Outs list starting off with Jim the Shrink. The last time I heard Ed do that was on July 24, 2026 when Ed did it.
If you don’t know the back story on this, read my post on Big Mo’s (John Heim, the retired former disc jockey, in case you’re new to the show) penultimate broadcast. The link takes you to my post about the long Shout-Out list and there’s a link in that post to the one about his penultimate broadcast with a pretty clear explanation for the reason Jim the Shrink got added in the first place. He substitutes “psychologist” for “psychiatrist” but the story still fits.
Anyway, the story is:
“The other big feature of his show last night was a more colorful and detailed Shout Outs list—and I’ve always wondered if I was on it. Now I’m pretty sure I’ve been on it for a while. It turns out Jim the Shrink is probably me. He told a short anecdote about how he first heard from a guy who emailed him about where he could find MayRee’s hand-battered catfish. It really tickled Big Mo that he’d got “a clinical psychologist” to bite on this faux sponsor gag. That happened about 4 years ago. He mentioned an idea he had about designing a tee shirt about MayRee. That led to me writing a blog post (my blog is Go Retire Psychiatrist) suggesting a design and making a fake picture of me wearing it. It never caught on, for some reason. But I made the Shout Outs list.”
Ed mentioned he might do the long list maybe “once a quarter.” I won’t hold my breath, but hearing it last night tickled me. I still don’t know why Ed English has “Unka Led” as his nickname.
