This is a twofer reblog because you get two blogs for the price of one! No, you don’t have to buy anything. The main event is a song entitled “Florida Man” by Selwyn Birchwood, mainly because I first heard it a few years ago on what is now, sadly, the retired Big Mo Blues Show, on Iowa’s only jazz and blues KCCK radio program. Big Mo retired May 15, 2026. I had to replace the YouTube video of the song because it was removed by YouTube for some reason.
It’s easy to see both posts: the one mainly about the song (see below), which I heard on Big Mo’s radio show and the post two days earlier “Gators OMG.” You really have to read both. There are a couple of reasons. One is in honor of John Heim aka Big Mo, and the other was to shout out Dave Barry’s book, which was about his home state-Florida! That one is “Best State Ever, A Florida Man Defends His Homeland,” published in 2016.
And this is a reason to shout out for Dave Barry’s new book (2025, new to me anyway), “Dave Barry: The Memoirs of a Proessional Wiseass (or how I went 77 years without growing up).” Long title, big laughs.
