Do I Know Anything More about How You Can Prove a Negative? ReBlog!

, , ,

I anticipated that WordPress would suggest I do a reblog of my post from June 8, 2021, “Aliens Dancing on My TV Remote Again.” I can’t remember whether I ever found out why our TV remote control was clicking like it was possessed by a demon or extraterrestrial or not. Maybe that’s because I was hypnotized and brainwashed after I was abducted by the little gray guys in souped up UFOs who were just looking for a decent rib joint and a Mercury.

One thing I can tell you is that I’m more modest about my ability to truly understand the argument of Steven Hales, who wrote the essay “Thinking Tools: You can Prove a negative.” As I gain in age, I gain humility—a little. Sure, my post is tongue-in-cheek, so what else is new? But Hales is making a point about inductive reasoning, which I sort of get. I have a selfish reason for claiming I get his point. I don’t really believe in extraterrestrials or Bigfoot, any more than I believe in Santa Claus. Is that so terrible? Just buy the little grays a Mercury and forget about them.
