I can tell you I only half-listened for the most part to ‘da Blues with Bobby D (Bob DeForest) last night on KCCK because I was working on something else. But I could not block out the song “Living in a Dangerous Time” from the Little Axe Champagne & Grits album. I felt haunted by the lyrics, which are dominated by the repeated ominous warning refrain “living in a dangerous time” and the sense of danger of sleeping through something going on in the world that we need to wake up to. But to do what?
In one sense, the world is always in some kind of dangerous era and we tend to block out most of the warnings and alarms. I didn’t understand all the lyrics, but I think I got at least part of the message.
I try not to read every headline in the news. In fact, most of the time, if I see golden retrievers, kittens, models, and actors in the first few scrolls, I stop looking at it. I don’t know how anybody gets into doomscrolling.
I admit I often hide in humor and nostalgia. I remember saying hello to my wife Sena more than 48 years ago. The times were as dangerous then as they are now, as they always have been and probably always will be.
