November is National Blog Posting Month NaBloPoMo!

I’m going to go out on a limb and give a shout-out to anyone who wants to participate in a national month-long event for blog posting. I just found out about it and it’s unofficial, but National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) has been going on for a while and the history along with other guidance is available on a blogspot website.

Every once in a while, WordPress used to announce this kind of monthly writing challenge although I haven’t seen it in a while. Like the person who wrote the guide, I’m acting in an unofficial capacity. I don’t have any credentials other than having unofficially posted daily on my WordPress blog (Go Retire Psychiatrist) a few times, once (or maybe twice?) for a year in the past and I’m doing that again now. I’ve also been blogging on the WordPress platform (except for a few months off) since around 2011. This time, I’ve so far posted 249 days in a row. Being retired makes that a little easier to do.

What would anyone write about daily for a month, much less for a year? Since retirement, I’ve picked up a couple of hobbies, including juggling for which I have a YouTube video category called Ordinary Juggling. If you watch the pros juggle, you’ll know why I call my style “ordinary.” I used to call it “ugly” but my wife, Sena, told me to change that name to something else, hence, “ordinary.”

This is an entirely voluntary, on your honor activity. Because it’s unofficial, nobody’s tracking bloggers on whether they actually write every day for a month. But you’re your own judge and that can often motivate writers to write whether or not they get a tangible reward.

Writers can be their own worst critics, so try to take it easy on yourselves. If you miss a day or so, don’t sweat it.

I’m not an official for NaBloPoMo, but if you’d like to comment on this post about what you’re writing and why, please do so. Since I don’t have a real mailbox for my blog domain for messages because that’s too expensive, comments are welcome.

One thing I’ll let you know; my blog gets a lot of comments about a salad dressing called Miracle Whip. I used to eat bologna sandwiches with Miracle Whip every day when I was a kid in grade school. I wrote a few blog posts about it and discovered there’s a heck of a lot of people out there who have comments expressing the opinion that the Miracle Whip formula has changed in recent years. Your challenge would be to top the number of comments I’ve gotten about that. Good luck!
