More Evidence Stair Climbing is Good for You!

OK, I found another news article backed by a scientific study that climbing the stairs is better for your health than taking the elevator.

If you’re a regular stair climber, you’re 39% less likely to die from a cardiovascular disease and 24% less likely to die from any cause.

When I was working as a general hospital psychiatric consultant in big hospital with 8 floors, I regularly took the elevator. One reason was they were too slow. I could walk faster to an emergency than riding in the elevator.

All my trainees learned that I preferred taking the elevator on general hospital rounds to see patients. One medical student had artistic talent and drew a picture depicting an Escher-like drawing of stairs all over the place, entitled the Practical Psychosomaticist!

Another student made the mistake of wearing high heels. Although I’m sure she regretted it, she actually made pretty good time and did OK on stairs.

Sena believes in taking stairs, too. In fact, I got a video of her doing just that when were staying in a hotel a couple of years while waiting for our new house to be built.
