  • So Long Big Mo from Jim the Shrink16 May 2026
It was John Heim aka Big Mo’s last show last night. Dennis Green was there to shake his hand. Big Mo got a box of memorabilia. And he got a ton of posts and calls. He talked to Dennis about starting a new show at KCCK and he sounded more than half-serious. Retirement is hard. … Continue reading "So Long Big Mo from Jim the Shrink"

I saw this great blog post about psychotherapy by Dr. George Dawson a couple of days ago and it reminded me of an academic research rounds presentation made about 15 years ago by University of Iowa Health Care Dept of Psychiatry faculty member, Dr. Bruce Pfohl, MD Professor Emeritus. On the calendar for Mental Health Month today is “Movement matters” so it’s all about getting off your duff and doing something physically active. Today, Sena raced in from the garden in the back yard and alerted me that she could see something in the Red-tailed Hawk nest, maybe a chick! We haven’t been able to see much for days now. Psychiatric Times More Than Medicine: A Journey of Juggling

National Weather Service

It is wise to direct your anger towards problems-not people; to focus your energies on answers-not excuses.-William Arthur Ward

Plan for retirement, even if you don’t plan to retire. This means sound financial planning, developing other interests, and nurturing your relationships with significant others. Retire, even if you are not retired. Take enough time off periodically, and completely, with no connections to work, so that you can feel emotionally free from concerns about patients and practice. Of course, there is no reason to retire if you really love your work and relationships just as they are.-H. Steven Moffic, MD See original article in Psychiatric Times
