Reblogging “Reading My Old Book in a New Light”

I’m reblogging my post “Reading My Old Book in a New Light” because when I first wrote it, I didn’t know that my former chairman of the University of Iowa Health Care Psychiatry Dept, Dr. Robert G. Robinson, MD was nearing the end of his life at the time, which was in December of 2024. I didn’t know that.

Dr. Robinson was the co-editor of our book, “Psychosomatic Medicine: An Introduction to Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry” published in 2010 by Cambridge University Press. You can find it now in many places, including the Internet Archive.

Dr. Robinson was an inspiring researcher, writer, mentor, and leader.

  1. Reading an old book in a new light means discovering fresh ideas in familiar pages. Although the words may have been written long ago, their messages can still speak to us today. As we grow and experience new things, we understand the characters, choices, and lessons differently. A book that once seemed simple may reveal deeper meaning, reminding us that every reading can open a new window onto the past—and onto ourselves.
