Upping My Game on the Single Leg Sit to Stand Exercise

,

Sena has ordered a regular chair pad that I’ll use for my single leg sit to stand exercise. This is something I started back when we were staying in a hotel waiting for builders to finish building our new house a couple of years ago.

I’ve been using a pile of clothes to increase the height of my starting seated position in the chair. That’s right—I cheat. Well, it’s not really cheating. Anyway, the idea is to work your glutes and knees to enhance stability and balance. You can read a really long article about it, but it’s good for helping older adults to postural stability and whatnot.

I’m weaker on my left leg than on my right. That goes for just about every other limb for me, and it impacts a lot of activities, including juggling.

I couldn’t do this at all a couple years ago, but I’ve made progress. I cheat a little though by raising the height of the chair seat by piling clothes on it. This effectively decreases the distance I need to rise from a seated position, making the exercise a little easier.

Some experts recommend doing 10-15 reps on both legs. Try and make me! Nyah, nyah!

The video below shows my progress. I’ve also got a fitness video showing the same strategy. So, go ahead and cheat. I’m too old to feel guilty.
