Okay It’s National Dairy Month!

Well, today is the first day of National Dairy Month and the biggest event I know of so far is the KOKZ 105.7 New Day Dairy Weekend Getaway where you and your loved ones will be chained to hard wooden stools and required to milk 900 cows every morning for the entire month! Sound good?

That’s not true, of course; I’m joshing you. I hear Mike Waters is going to risk life and limb by milking a cow. He does the daily Mike Waters Wake Up Call radio show starting at 5:30 a.m. (which I think is late when it comes to milking cows) and going until 10:00 a.m.

You know, this brings back memories for me of elementary school field trips in the 1960s when I was going to Lincoln School (which was torn down ages ago to make room for expansion of the Post Office), one of which was to visit the Borden Company Plant in Mason City, Iowa. We all got ice cream, divided into teams, made ice balls with the ice cream and had the biggest darn ice ball fight you ever saw until one kid fell in the big ice cream vat and had to get rescued, and then a bunch of us had to sit in the principal’s office for half a day.

Nah, that didn’t happen; just playing with your head as usual! We behaved ourselves and had a great time.

And then there’s Birdsall’s Ice Cream which has been in Mason City since 1931. It’s still in operation. Birdsall’s made their premium high-butterfat ice cream on site.

You know, I’m wondering if there’s going to be a YouTube video of Mike Waters milking a cow. That’ll be a wake-up call!
